Sundance 2025: vince ‘Atropia’, prodotto da Guadagnino

Il film prodotto da Luca Guadagnino, Atropia, si aggiudica il premio più importante del Sundance Film Festival 2025. La cerimonia tenutasi al Park City nello Utah, ha consegnato al film diretto da Hailey Gates il Gran Premio della Giuria per un dramma Usa, mentre Seeds si è aggiudicato il premio per il documentario a stelle e strisce. Sabar Bonda (Cactus Pears) si è aggiudicato il Premio della Giuria nella sezione World Cinema Dramatic Competition, mentre Cutting Through Rocks ha ottenuto il premio per la World Cinema Documentary Competition.

Tra i premi del pubblico, Twinless ha vinto tra i film drammatici statunitensi, mentre André Is an Idiot ha conquistato il primo posto tra i documentari. DJ Ahmet ha ricevuto il premio del pubblico per la World Cinema Dramatic Competition, mentre Prime Minister ha prevalso nella World Cinema Documentary Competition.

Atropia, prodotto da Guadagnino, è un film satirico scritto e diretto da Hailey Gates al suo esordio alla regia di un lungometraggio. Interpretato da Alia Shawkat, Callum Turner, Chloë Sevigny e Tim Heidecker, segue un’aspirante attrice che lavora in una struttura militare statunitense progettata per simulare una zona di guerra irachena. Quando la protagonista si innamora di un soldato assegnato al ruolo di insorto, le loro emozioni reali minacciano di compromettere l’operazione.

“Per la sua singolare regia, scrittura e visione, questa opera prima tempestiva e senza tempo è allo stesso tempo esilarante e accusatoria nel suo ritratto della scena di guerra. – si legge nella motivazione – La sua critica pungente dell’imperialismo statunitense e la sua narrazione, che si spinge oltre i limiti, hanno portato tutti e tre i giurati ad assegnare all’unanimità il premio“.
