Gabriele D’Andrea appointed by Mubi to lead growth in theatrical distribution across Italy

Cannes title 'Die My Love', 'Sirât' and 'The Mastermind' will be among the first film to hit Italian screens

Screen International has exclusively reported that MUBI has named Gabriele D’Andrea as Vice President and Managing Director of MUBI Italia, tasking him with overseeing the company’s entry into theatrical distribution in Italy. Theatrical distribution operations are already active across North America, Latin America, UK, Germany and Benelux. Mubi has been present in Italy since 2021, when the streaming platform was launched in the country.

D’Andrea carries over a decade of experience from Italian production and distribution company Lucky Red, where he led theatrical strategy and distribution, and will continue to serve as CEO of Circuito Cinema, a prominent network of independent and arthouse cinemas in Italy.

Mubi Italia will officially launch its theatrical slate in Italy this year with the release of Cannes’ Official Competition title Die, My Love by Lynne Ramsay, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. The film was recently acquired by Mubi in a multi-territory deal covering North America, Latin America, UK, Germany, Spain, Benelux, Turkey, India, Australia, and now Italy.

The film release will be followed by Oliver Laxe’s Sirât, which was awarded the jury prize at Cannes and Kelly Reichardt’s The Mastermind, with Josh O’Connor, which was also featured in the Official Competition at Cannes.
